Sildenafil Citrate – CVS Pharmacy

How to use
Read the Patient Information Leaflet provided by your pharmacist before you start taking sildenafil and each time you receive a refill. It is essential to understand the instructions and information regarding this medication. If you have any uncertainties or questions, do not hesitate to ask your doctor or pharmacist for clarification. To effectively treat erectile dysfunction (ED), take this medication by mouth as directed by your healthcare provider, typically on an as-needed basis. For optimal results, consume sildenafil at least 30 minutes, but no more than 4 hours, prior to engaging in sexual activity; taking it an hour beforehand often yields the best effects. It is important to note that the absorption of this medication may be delayed if taken alongside a high-fat meal, so plan accordingly. Do not exceed the recommended daily dosage and refrain from taking it more than once in a 24-hour period. The appropriate dosage you should take is influenced by your medical condition, how you respond to treatment, and any other medications you may be using concurrently. Be thorough in informing your doctor and pharmacist about all the products you are currently taking, which includes prescription and nonprescription drugs, as well as any herbal supplements. If you find that your condition is not improving, please reach out to your healthcare provider promptly for further evaluation and guidance.
Precautions
Before initiating treatment with sildenafil, it is crucial to inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have any known allergies to the medication or any of its components; additionally, if you have any other allergies, make sure to mention those as well. This product may contain several inactive ingredients that could trigger allergic reactions or cause other medical problems, so discussing your individual allergies with your pharmacist can provide you with more specific guidance. Prior to using this medication, it is highly recommended to disclose your complete medical history to your healthcare provider, particularly any issues related to: cardiovascular events (like heart attack or life-threatening irregular heartbeat occurring within the last 6 months, angina, or heart failure), strokes experienced in the past 6 months, renal impairment, hepatic issues, hypertension or hypotension, dehydration, abnormalities of the penis (including angulation, fibrosis/scarring, or Peyronie’s disease), history of prolonged and painful erections (priapism), or any conditions that could elevate the risk of priapism (such as sickle cell anemia, leukemia, or multiple myeloma), as well as eye disorders (like retinitis pigmentosa or sudden vision loss). This medication may induce feelings of dizziness or could create visual disturbances, and the consumption of alcohol or marijuana (cannabis) may worsen these side effects. Therefore, it is wise to refrain from driving, operating machinery, or engaging in activities requiring mental alertness and clear vision until you are confident in your ability to do so safely. Moderation in alcohol consumption is advised. If you are using or plan to use marijuana (cannabis), a conversation with your doctor is warranted. Furthermore, if you are scheduled for surgery, inform your doctor or dentist about all the medications you are currently using, which should include both prescription and over-the-counter products, along with any herbal supplements. During pregnancy, sildenafil should only be utilized when the benefits clearly outweigh the risks. Given that pulmonary hypertension is a serious ailment that could adversely affect both a pregnant woman and her unborn child, do not discontinue this medication without consulting your physician first. If you are contemplating pregnancy, have become pregnant, or suspect that you may be pregnant, it is essential to discuss with your doctor the advantages and potential drawbacks of continuing this treatment throughout your pregnancy. Additionally, this medication can be transferred into breast milk; therefore, consulting with your healthcare provider before breastfeeding is crucial.

When disposing of medications, do not flush them down the toilet or pour them down the drain unless specifically instructed to do so. When this product has expired or is no longer needed, it should be discarded properly.
