What are Sildenafil and Tadalafil?

Both medications, known as PDE5-inhibitors, are utilized in the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED). These inhibitors work by promoting the relaxation of blood vessels, subsequently increasing blood flow to targeted areas of the body, leading to improved function.

What is the difference?

While both medications are effective, the primary difference lies in their duration of action in the body. Typically, both medications commence their effects within approximately 30 to 60 minutes post-administration. We compound these medications as a troche/lozenge or as Quick Dissolve Sublingual Tablets, both of which are innovative dosage forms that enhance delivery. Troches are designed as small lozenges that dissolve comfortably between the cheek and gum over a duration of about 15 to 30 minutes, while sublingual tablets can dissolve rapidly under the tongue. This unique absorption method allows the medication to enter the bloodstream directly through the thin membrane of the mouth, circumventing the digestive tract, which can delay absorption. Tadalafil is a daily medication that can last in the system for up to 36 hours, making it suitable for ongoing use, while Sildenafil is typically taken as needed, 30 to 60 minutes prior to sexual activity, with effects lasting for up to 4 hours. Should one medication fail to alleviate symptoms, it is unlikely that the other will succeed, due to their similar mechanisms of action.

Which one is right for me?

Your physician will help determine the most suitable option based on your medical history, risk factors, and specific therapeutic goals. It's crucial to have an open discussion regarding your health status and current ED challenges with your healthcare provider before making a final decision.

For Troches

Here’s how to properly place the troche in your mouth for optimal effect.

When you are prepared to administer a troche/lozenge, position the troche against your gum and cheeks. Carefully push the troche as deep as it should go between your gums and cheeks for effective absorption. After this, remove your finger from your mouth and press on the troche from the outside of your cheeks for at least 30 seconds to secure its place. It’s acceptable if the troche adheres to your cheek rather than your gum. Ensure you wash your hands thoroughly after administration. This method is commonly referred to as buccal administration.

  • DO NOT CHEW or SWALLOW the troche.
  • Change the placement of the medication in your mouth for each dose to minimize the risk of irritation.
  • It usually requires about 15 to 30 minutes for the troche to completely dissolve. Avoid drinking, eating, or brushing your teeth until the troche is fully dissolved, as this will help maintain the medication's efficacy by keeping it out of the digestive tract.
  • To ensure a consistent level of medication in your bloodstream, it is recommended that you take the medication at the same time every day.

For Quick Dissolve Sublingual Dose

The sublingual tablet can be positioned simply under your tongue, a method referred to as sublingual administration. Alternatively, this tablet can also be positioned against your gum and cheek (buccal administration), mirroring the administration of a troche.

Note: Troches and suppositories require refrigeration using ice packs and will incur an additional charge of $19.95 per order for safe shipping and handling.
