It’s crucial to take tadalafil precisely as your healthcare provider advises. This ensures optimal effectiveness while minimizing potential risks.
If you have been prescribed tadalafil privately, make sure to read all accompanying information carefully since dosage and strength recommendations can differ.
Dosage and Administration
Tadalafil is available in various strengths including 2.5mg, 5mg, 10mg, and 20mg tablets.
Recommended Dose for Erectile Dysfunction
The standard dose for erectile dysfunction typically starts at 10mg, taken as needed. It is essential not to exceed one tablet per day.
Your healthcare provider may adjust the dosage based on the medication's effects and your frequency of use.
Since the effects of tadalafil can last longer than 24 hours, daily use of the 10mg or 20mg tablets is not recommended.
For tadalafil to be effective, sexual stimulation is necessary.
Dose for Benign Prostate Hyperplasia (BPH)
When used for treating BPH, the usual dose of tadalafil is either 2.5mg or 5mg, with the latter commonly prescribed to be taken once daily.
If you are treating both erectile dysfunction and BPH, the recommended dose is typically 5mg per day.
Dose for Pulmonary Hypertension
For patients with pulmonary hypertension, tadalafil is available in 20mg tablets, with the usual dose being 40mg taken once a day, which equals two 20mg tablets.
Those with kidney or liver complications may have their starting dose reduced to 10mg or 20mg.
Always swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water or juice (excluding grapefruit juice).
For erectile dysfunction, ensure you take one tablet at least 30 minutes before engaging in sexual activity.
If using tadalafil for prostate enlargement, you can choose to take your tablet in the morning or evening, but aim for consistency by choosing the same time each day.
Note that tadalafil tablets for pulmonary hypertension may be larger and more challenging to swallow.
What to Do If You Forget a Dose
If you forget to take your medication:
- For benign prostate enlargement: Take the missed dose as soon as you remember and then continue with your usual schedule.
- For pulmonary hypertension: If you can remember within 8 hours, take it. If it’s been longer, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the scheduled time.
Under no circumstances should you double your dose or take two doses simultaneously to compensate for a missed one.
Setting an alarm or reminder may help keep you on track with your dosing schedule. You can also consult your pharmacist for additional strategies.
In Case of Overdose
Taking too much tadalafil can lead to adverse effects such as:
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Indigestion
- Stuffy nose
- Visual changes (such as blurred vision)
Urgent Advice: Seek immediate help if you suspect an overdose.
